"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."
Philippians 4:6
Fasting without prayer is just a diet. Fasting without a purpose is not fasting at all. As we near the end of this time of fasting, my sincere hope is that you continue your time of prayer even after you go back to "normal" eating.
Fasting doesn't bring your requests and petitions to God, but prayer does. Talking to God is vital to growing your relationship with Him, and fasting removes the distractions, for a time, and gives you an opportunity to focus on exactly what you are thankful for as well as the point of your petition.
This verse makes it clear that we should be praying in every situation. Not just through this time of fasting, but through and in every situation. It may be easier to pray focused and deliberate prayers while fasting, but don't let yourself feel anxious for when this fast is over. God has been slowly peeling away the layers of the world, and speaking to and hearing from your heart directly.
Keep praying.
Pray often.
Pray fervently.
If you haven't been keeping a prayer journal, I highly recommend starting one. Years from now, wouldn't it be awesome to look back and see how this process of prayer and fasting started?
